Wix makes it easy to build a website without knowing anything about code, and starts at very low prices. It gives you over 900 templates to get you started, including dozens of portfolio designs you can use to showcase your videography work. There are also some great online store templates if you want to sell products.
When we reviewed Wix, we particularly appreciated the industry-leading SEO support features, and found it super-easy to use. Once you’ve chosen a template, just use drag and drop to add your text, images and videos, and you’re done. If you like what you see, you can then head to Wix’s App Market, where you’ll find numerous add-ons to customise it further. A quick search for ‘video’ delivers 36 different apps, many of which are designed specifically to help you showcase your videos on your website.
Wix’s cheapest plans are cheap indeed, and there’s even a free plan. Don’t get too excited, though: the storage you get with this is very limited (just 500MB), so you will likely have to pay a premium price if you want to host your videos. That said, you could always upload your videos to YouTube instead, and then embed them on your website. For info, see our Wix review and our comparison of Squarespace vs Wix.

Want to present your video clips in the most visually attractive way possible? Of course you do. Then you should know that Squarespace has, in our opinion, the most beautiful templates amongst all website builders. And they’re constantly updated to keep up with the latest web design practices. So if you want your site to look slick and professional, Squarespace is a worthwhile investment that could help you earn more money in the long run.
When we reviewed it, we found Squarespace’s interface is a little fiddly to use compared with some web builders. However, the flipside of that is that there’s more functionality if you dig around a little. You get virtually everything you’ll ever need to showcase your videos, without having to install third-party apps or programs. (There are a few third-party extensions available, but these are mainly focused on ecommerce.)
Squarespace doesn’t have a free tier, but does offer a 14-day free trial. For more info, see our Squarespace review.

Weebly is similar to Wix, with one big difference. If you want to host a lot of videos on your site, you can get unlimited storage for just $18 per month. Note that individual file uploads are limited to 1GB a time, but that’s still a very generous deal.
Weebly’s interface is also very easy to use, partly because it’s less feature-rich than some. Many videographers will be attracted by this “idiot-proof” editing, but note that you will only be able to place elements in pre-coded positions.
There are some excellent ecommerce tools, and Weebly’s templates, too, are good quality. Although its selection is much smaller than that of some rivals (with just seven portfolio templates), each design is attractive and professionally built. Finally, the Weebly App Center contains a great selection of plugins to help you manage your videos. A search for “video” reveals 61 different options, many of which are free. Web hosting giant HostGator has its own website builder called Gator. And while it’s not aimed at videographers specifically, you should still consider it due to its generous storage and bandwidth limits, flexible editor, and a range of freebies.
At the heart of Gatar lies a drag-and-drop editing interface that we found offers excellent design flexibility, allowing you to place elements in pixel-perfect positions. It enables you to add and remove different design elements as required, and customise global settings to ensure your site looks exactly the way you envisioned.
If you don’t have much design experience, though, that might be a little intimidating. Another option is to get started using the AI intelligent site builder. This asks you a few questions about the type of site you want, then provides you with a personalised design that you can customise as needed.
All three price plans include unmetered bandwidth. Note, though, that this is governed by the company’s terms of use – there will be a point where you will be asked to upgrade to a more advanced plan if you use too many resources. For full details, see our Gator review.

If throwing together a basic portfolio quickly is your priority, we recommend Site123. When we tested it, we found it’s a brilliant platform for beginners because it’s so easy to master. Basically, what it lacks in advanced features, it makes up for in speed and ease of use. The theme library features more than 200 templates, and while these are fairly basic, that makes it easy to get online fast. Just choose the one you like, add your own content, and hit publish.
On the downside, Site123 isn’t specifically aimed at videographers. And it doesn’t offer any dedicated video tools, or any particularly useful apps.
There’s a free forever plan, which is quite limited: it comes with just 250MB of storage and bandwidth. All premium plans come with a free domain for the first year, a free SSL certificate for additional storage, and a minimum of 10GB of storage. For more details, see our Site123 review.

Format is a specialised website builder for photographers and videographers who want to build an online portfolio. And so naturally, it offers a great selection of portfolio-specific tools.
There are 73 portfolio templates to choose from, which we found particularly impressive when we tested it. Seven of these are designed specifically for videographers, with various design and styling elements that make it easy to share your work. You can also add a basic ecommerce interface to your portfolio, allowing you to potentially sell your work to interested clients.
The cheapest premium subscription only lets you upload 15 minutes of hosted video, which increases to 120 minutes with the priciest option. Again, though, there’s nothing stopping you from uploading your videos elsewhere and embedding them on your site. For more details, see our Format review.

The website builders we’ve covered so far rely on templates. That means you’re going to end up with a ‘cookie cutter’ design that will look pretty similar to most other videographers’ portfolios. If you’re willing to put in a bit of effort, though, here’s an alternative that will give you ultimate design control.
The WordPress.org content management system is free to download, and it comes with a great range of tools to help you create the website of your dreams. Note, though, that it doesn’t include web hosting or a domain name: you will have to pay for both. That said, it’s possible to get started for no more than a few dollars per month.
The power of WordPress lies in the design flexibility it offers. The native editor is a little simplistic, but there are numerous third-party builders that you can use. You will also have full code access, enabling you to fine tune your site’s design.
The excellent theme and plugin libraries are also a major selling point. For one, there are tens of thousands of templates available in the official theme library and across the web. There are also countless WordPress plugins, and many of these can be used to enhance your video portfolio.
Don’t get us wrong, though: if you’ve never used WordPress, and especially if you’ve never even heard of it, you might find it quite challenging and a drain on your time and energy to learn. So if you’re keen to get your videography website online quickly, this won’t be the option for you.
FAQs
Do you need a website as a videographer?
There are many reasons to have a website as a videographer. The first is simply as a point of contact for people thinking of hiring you. Business cards can get lost, social media can get messy, but a website is entirely under your control and you can present all the contact details you need in the format that makes sense for you.
A website is also a great place to showcase your work. It allows you to curate a proper portfolio, categorise each clip clearly, and make everything searchable. More subtly, the way you design your website allows you to project your personality and aesthetic values as a creative professional.
Do I need to learn code to build a website?
No, you don’t need to understand code to build a website. There are many website builder services that make it easy to do so, using a drag and drop interface. That means you choose a template, then just drag and drop your images and text into it. Any videographer who’s used to using video editing software such as Final Cut or Premiere Pro should find this a doddle.
What should a videographer website include?
There are three important things that every videographer website should include. One is a ‘Work’ section, which includes video clips of your best work, to show what you’re capable of. Ideally, your website would host these videos itself, but if you can’t afford that much storage, you can always upload the clips to YouTube or Vimeo and link out or embed them in your site.
A videographer’s website should also include an ‘About me’ page, that tells people what they need to know about you and the services you offer. And finally, you need a ‘Contact’ page with a telephone number, email address and/or contact form for people interesting in booking you.
Other content you may wish to include are social media buttons, a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section, and a blog. That said, only include the latter if you have time to update it regularly; otherwise it will just make you look lazy and disorganised!
How should I choose a website builder?
As a videographer, there are a number of things you should be looking for in a website builder service. For a start, it will need to provide lots of storage and bandwidth. Video takes up a lot of both, particularly at a time when 4K and above is becoming the standard. Secondly, videographers aren’t usually coders, so most will want an easy to use interface that allows them to build a website without knowing anything about web design. Finally, you’ll want your site to look as attractive as possible, so check out some of the templates on offer before you start, to make sure they fit in with your general aesthetic approach.
What’s the best website builder for videographers?
We believe that, in general, Wix is the best website builder for videographers. That’s partly because its interface makes it easy to build a site, with no experience required, using any of 900+ templates. It’s also because it’s potentially very affordable, as long as you’re happy to embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo.
If, however, you’d prefer to host your videos directly on your site, then we’d recommend either Weebly or Squarespace, which are more competitively priced on unlimited storage. Weebly is the best bet if ease-of-use is a priority, while Squarespace has the edge on the aesthetic appeal of its templates.
What’s the best free website builder for videographers?
A number of website builders offer free plans. However, they are limited in terms of storage and bandwidth. So they’re not a great choice for videographers who want to upload video content, which takes up a large amount of both. The only way you can really build a portfolio site with a free website builder, then, is to upload your video clips to YouTube or Vimeo, and link out to them from your website. If you’re happy to do that, then we’d recommend Wix’s free plan.
Note that you only get 500MB storage space and 1GB bandwidth, your site will also feature Wix ads, and its URL will be Wix-branded. That said, it’s a good option for getting started with a videography website, and you can move to a paid plan further down the line if you want to do more.
What’s the best cheap website builder for videographers?
If you’re a videographer who wants to get a website online but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money, again our pick is Wix. This service lets you build a website without having to write code, with the choice of 800+ templates to get you started. These include dozens of portfolio designs you can use to showcase your videography work.
Wix’s cheapest plans start at just $8.50 / £6.50 a month, and there’s even a free plan. Be aware, though, that you only get 500MB storage on the free plan, and 3GB on the cheapest paid plan. So you will likely have to pay if you want to host your videos, rather than just link to YouTube.
How to choose
Your portfolio is your calling card, and your website shines the spotlight on your videography brilliance. But choosing the right one can feel like wading through a sea of pixels.
The first thing to consider is, to be frank, how much work you want to put into your website. If the answer is “As little as possible”, choose a service like Wix or Weebly which makes everything easy with their drag-and-drop interfaces. Your website won’t be particularly beautiful or win any prizes for functionality, but it’ll do the job well enough. If you’re comfortable with putting work into customisation, though, Squarespace or WordPress offer you more control over the look and feel of your site.
Consider how much storage is on offer. Unlimited storage is crucial for hosting heavy video files, and Squarespace and Weebly excel here. And think about what you want your website too look like, too. Squarespace has the most beautiful templates in our view, but you may find nice ones on other platforms, and you don’t have to pay to see them.
How we test
We test website builders thoroughly, to check whether they deliver what they promise to videographers. Accordingly, we scour templates and scrutinise their design aesthetics. We explore all the options for video integration. We test that the websites built on these platforms perform seamlessly, whether accessed on laptops, tablets or phones. And we road-test customer support, to ensure that if problems occur, you’ll get the help and advice you need to solve them.
